Allow the soli to begin to dry out in between waterings. Test the soil with your finger. If possible, use filtered water or rain water or, failing that, allow tap water to rest for 24 hours before using as these plants can be sensitive to chemicals such as chlorine in water.
Light
Calatheas will do well in a bright spot but can tolerate relatively low light. Avoid direct sunlight as this will damage and mark the leaves.

Increase the humidity around the plant by grouping it with other plants, placing on a pebble tray or keep it in a well-lit bathroom where humidity tends to be higher than other rooms. Misting may cause discolouration to the leaves so if misting, make sure to do it earlier in the day allowing the water to evaporate throughout the day rather than sit on the leaves.
